Historic Significance
In the later part of the 19th Century, Don Justo Fernandez Gonzalez de la Vega, originally from Navia, a province of Asturias, Spain, chose Coatepec to begin a small coffee producing business. He married Rosa Aurora Lopez Baez and lived in this house where his son Justo Felix Fernandez Lopez was born. The original property consisted of the house and three adjoining properties where the offices, warehouses and production plant where located. As the business grew they moved to a larger space while the family moved to Xalapa, the state capital. Don Justo Felix Fernandez Lopez inherited the property and later passed it on to his son Justo Fernandez Avila. In 1987 Mr. Fernandez remodeled the house and converted it into a hotel, retaining the original style typical of southern Spain with arches, patios and interior gardens. The ambiance and the shell of tthe original house remain. |
