Area Guide

The city of Guanajuato was declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 1988. This beautiful colonial city was built over a ravine surrounded by mountains and rivers.  The wealth extracted from the gold and silver mines provided economic and architectural bonanza in this glorious city of tunnels, arches and subterranean streets.

Some of the interesting museums to visit are:

La Alhóndiga de Granaditas, Diego Rivera, Iconographic Museum of Quijote, Olga Costa Museum, The Mummy Museum.

Some historical sites of interest are:

Juarez Theater, The State Congress Building, The University of Guanajuato. Mineral de Rayas and Valenciana Mines.

Shopping for Handcrafts Ceramics by Gorky, Capelo, Santa Rosa, The Gallery of Casa del Conde de la Valenciana.

The city of Guanajuato is internationally  famous for cultural events such as the Festival Internacional Cervantino from October 4th to the 22nd 2006.                                                                                 The Symphony Orchestra offers a concert every Friday during the season.
The Annual Medieval and Beer Festival in the Spring.  Among other cultural events celebrated through out the year.
