Historic Significance
This 17th century house, dedicated to commerce and used as a base for the mule trains carrying goods between Acapulco, Valladolid, the central plateau and Mexico City, belonged to Don Francisco de Iturbe and Heriz who arrived in Mexico as administrator of Royal Hacienda and Ensign of the Queen. He adquired this property in 1790 and continued in the same business, becoming one of the most influential men of Pátzcuaro.
In the year of 1830 his daughter, Doña Paca ,was given the property as part of her dowry upon her marriage to Don Francisco de Arriaga y Peralta. In 1970 their descendents converted this historical monument into a Hotel.
This authentic house is considered a gem of the viceroy era by specialists in architecture of New Spain. |
