Historic Significance
Hacienda San Antonio El Puente is one of the few 18th century properties which pertained to the same family until the Mexican Revolution of 1910. Originally one of the largest producers of sugar cane in the region, the poet Guillermo Prieto once described the sugar production process in his piece “Un Paseo por Cuernavaca” in 1845.
During the Revolution, General Manuel Dolores Asunsolo spent a night at the hacienda on his way to Cuernavaca where he delivered the keys to the city to General Emiliano Zapata. During the 1950´s the property was the location for filming of two movies, Los Gavilanes with Pedro Infante and an all-star cast, and El Ciclon.
Ten years later the hacienda was a public recreational center ¨Balneario Real del Puente¨and averaged 5000 visitors daily. Inspired by the history of Colonial Mexico, over a period of two years the present owner has carefully restored this romantic treasure, seamlessly integrating parts of the original structure with the new and opened the doors of Hotel Hacienda San Antonio El Puente, the Spirit of an Époque. |
