Historic Significance

The name Zacatecas derives from the Nahuatl meaning "place of abundant grass". Due to the rich silver veins discovered in 1546 the city of Zacatecas was founded by Juan de Tolosa, Diego de Ibarra, Cristobal Oñate and Baltazar Temiño de Bañuelos.  Due to the wealth of the region many magnificent temples,monasteries, and mansions where built and inhabitat by the noble silver aristocrats.

This 18th century once private mansion with its beautiful stone facade has operated as a hotel since 1962. Passing through various hands, it was adquired by Casa Diaz in 2001 to form part of the Hotel Emporio Chain. The beautifully renovated interior provides maximum comfort and hospitality for guests.
