Area Guide
The colonial city of Zacatecas, was the first mexican city to be declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 1993. It is distinguished by some of the most beautiful barroque architecture in the New Spain. Some interesteristing nearby places to visit are:
- El Edén mine: This mine was adapted and opened to the public as a tourist site in 1975. The special ilumination permits visitors to observe the beauty of the mine. At night there is disco in the mine, visitors are transported by train.
- Cable car: Crosses the city from the Grillo Hill to la Bufa which is the symbol and emblem of the city. Its a 7minute ride at an altitude of 85 meters. It offers a magnificent panoramic view of the city of Zacatecas.
- Silver center: located in the shell of an 18th century Ex-Hacienda.
- Former church of San Agustín: A 17th century Ex Temple and Convent.
- State Congress building: A barroque arquitecture building.
- Church of Santo Domingo: A Temple with magnificent alters made of guilted wood.
- Fernando Calderón Theater: An elegant and slender 19th century victorian arquitecture.
- Cathedral : A magnificent facade of pink quarry stone considered the maximum expression of spanish american barroque arquitecture.
- Convent of Guadalupe.
- Museums: Pedro Coronel, Francisco Goytia, Manuel Felguérez, De la Toma de Zacatecas, Universitario de Ciencias, La Quemada Archeological Site
