The state of Yucatan has many incredible sights. While staying in Hacienda Xcanatun, guests can visit the following: The Colonial city of Merida was founded in 1542 by the Spanish Conqueror Francisco de Montejo. Here the First Cathedral on the American Continent was established in 1598. The city was declared the Capital of Culture 2000. The archeological sites of Dzibilchaltun located only minutes from the hacienda, Uxmal and its spectacular light and sound show, and Chichen Itzá famous for the pyramid of the mayan God Kukulcan. In the state there are more than seven hundred registered "Cenotes" which are underground water sink holes formed by underground tunnels where you can swim, dive or simply admire the formations of nature. America´s largest natural flamingo reserve is nearby along with beaches. The nearby cities of Valladolid and Izamal are also worth a visit. |
