Hacienda San Gabriel de las Palmas

Historic Significance

The History of San Gabriel de las Palmas dates back to the year 1529 when Hernán Cortés ordered the construction using semi-circular walls and vaulted arches.

Once a Franciscan Monastery the monks where forced to leave in 1559 when the Hacienda was converted into a sugar plantation. During the colonial period it became the largest producer and refinery in Mexico.

Throughout history Hacienda San Gabriel de las Palmas has been visited by historical figures including Emiliano Zapata, who installed his main headquarters here during the Revolution.

In recent years the Hacienda has been converted into an exclusive hotel of luxury and refined taste.
