Historic Significance

Hacienda El Carmen was formerly known as Santa Maria de Miraflores and pertained to Don Pedro de Cuevas. In 1560 the property was aquired by Don Merodio de Velasco, who sold it to Gabriel de Aguilar. His widow, Doña Francisca de Figueroa, inherited the hacienda in 1715 and willed it to the Carmelita religious order.

On May 28, 1728, the Convent of the Carmen was founded, thereby aquiring its actual name. The property passed through several hands  until purchased by the actual owners who zealously preserve the original architecture and antiques treasured throughout the history of the hacienda.
