Overview
Casa de Sierra Nevada is located in the colonial jewel of San Miguel de Allende which was founded in 1542 and declared a National Monument by the National Institute of Anthropology and History in 1926. The ornate "churrigueresco" architecture, so named for the Spanish architect Jose de Churriguera, enthralls visitors as do the cobblestone streets, immense handcarved wooden doors, wrought iron balconies, hand-painted tiles, carved quarry stone and central patios adorned with fountains and flowers.
The hotel is comprised of nine colonial mansions and buildings dating from the 16th to the 18th century. Several have private patios and house two to six individually decorated suites featuring stucco walls, curved ceilings, wood burning fireplaces and hand-woven rugs to create and ambiance of gentile warmth while evoking the rich architectural style of San Miguel. Guests not only can enjoy the many cultural activities in the area, the many comforts and services provided by the hotel, but also the opportunity to learn the art of Mexican cuisine at Sazon, the culinary school and store which forms part of the hotel.
