Overview
The exclusive and romantic ambiance of the hotel Antigua Villa Santa Monica, located in a privileged corner of San Miguel de Allende, occupies a building dating from the 17th century which was once the country home of a wealthy family from this colonial city.
The house was acquired in 1920 by Jose Guadalupe Mojica, a great promoter of tourism to San Miguel and international opera singer who later became a Franciscan monk. In this villa he received legendary figures from the artistic community such as Dolores del Rio, Jorge Negrete, John Houston and the composers Agustin Lara and Pedro Vargas who composed the famous melody “Solamente Una Vez Ame en la Vida” for their host.
The history, the tranquility, the enticing central patio, the lovely gardens and the chimneys in the rooms convert this hotel in an idyllic place to stay while visiting this picturesque Mexican province in the state of Guanajuato.
