San Miguel de Allende was founded in 1542 by a Franciscan monk San Miguel El Grande. Known as the “Cradle of the Mexican Independence movement” San Miguel de Allende is a town of culture and history.
One of the best ways to admire the town is strolling through its lovely cobbled stone streets and admiring the different mansions and temples. In San Miguel de Allende you will find many handcraft artists which show there work in galleries or in the outside areas surrounding the Main Plaza. Some of the places worthwhile seeing:
-
Palacio Municipal
-
Teatro Angela Peralta
-
Casa del Insurgente General Miguel Allende (Museum)
-
Instituto de Artes Plasticas
-
Santuario de Atotonilco
-
Caballerizas de los Dragones de la Reina.
If there is a chance nearby are the colonial cities of Queretaro, Guanajuato and Dolores Hidalgo which are also worth the trip.
