Historic Significance
The stately building which dates from 1837 was once the manor house of a prosperous Hacienda located in the heart of colonial Tlalpan, an area in the south of Mexico City. The property belonged to Don Fernando Gonzalez, brother of a tamaulipan general Manuel "El Manco" Gonzalez who was President of Mexico at the beginning of the Porfirian Era. From 1932 to 1956 the Hacienda was home to Laura Enriquez Coyro author of the famous poem Via Crucis. Prior to the 1930's the property had an extension of 26,500 square meters of farmland but relinquished 3,000 meters for the construction of the new Cuernavaca Highway which today is known as the Calzada de Tlalpan. In the section of San Fernando La Joya today stands Antigua Hacienda de Tlalpan. Later on it passed to other owners and was acquired and restored by its present owner becoming the prestigious restaurant that it is today, Antigua Hacienda de Tlalpan. |
