Area Guide
The colonial area of Tlalpan is located in the southern part of Mexico City. Xochimilco has boats decorated with flowers and colorful mexican cut out paper which take through the canals. For an extra charge Mariachis seranades and typical mexican snacks are available from other boats. On Saturdays in the heart of San Angel is the Saturday Bazaar which is famous for its great variety of handcrafts, paintings and antiques. Local artists exhibit their work in the plaza. There are several restaurants at the plaza also. Plaza and Ex Convent of San Jacinto its located nearby. The gardens and the architecture of the Convent are worth a visit. The Convent of El Carmen Museum on Revolution Avenue has mommies on display. For shoppers there is Perisur and Plaza Loreto which have boutiques and Restaurants. The National University of Mexico (UNAM Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) is located farther south on Insurgentes Avenue. Admire the murals of the Tower of Rectoria, the Olimpic Stadium and the Central Library created by Siqueiros, Diego Rivera and Juan O' Gorman respectively. Also of great interest tis the Centro Escultorico and the Sala Nezahualcoyotl where concerts are held. |
